NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men's golf team will be in the Outer Banks for the next couple of days as the Monarchs host the 14th Annual ODU/OBX Intercollegiate at Kilmarlic Golf Club in Powells Point, North Carolina.
The three-day tournament will run this Sunday through Tuesday with the first and second rounds scheduled for 8:30 a.m. tee times off the first and 10th holes and the final round beginning at 8 a.m. The course at Kilmarlic features a par of 71 and is 6,554 total yards. Live stats will be available through GolfStat.
A majority of last year’s field is returning for this year’s tournament. Making the trip back to Kilmarlic will be Drake, Drexel, La Salle, Longwood, North Dakota, Omaha, Robert Morris, St. Bonaventure, Saint Francis (Pa.), and Saint Joseph's. Georgetown last competed in the Intercollegiate in 2022, and Maryland Eastern Shore and Murray State are competing in the tournament for the first time.
ODU’s lineup will consist of Philip Minnehan, Jacob Gunther, Cullen Campbell, Kaijun Ma and Jakub Sutor with James Page, Joseph MacPherson and Garret Cameron competing as individuals.
“We’re excited to be hosting this tournament for the 14th year. We’ve got a good field of teams and we’re hoping that we can play well like we did last year when we finished second. The weather is supposed to be perfect for all three days and our expectations are high,” said ODU Head Coach Murray Rudisill.
Drexel won last year’s team and individual titles. The Dragons combined for a two-over par 854 with Drue Nicholas finishing first at six-under 207 and teammate Griffin Mitchell placing second with a four-under 209. ODU came in second as a team with a 15-over 867, edging SIU Edwardsville by one stroke. Kazuki Yamauchi led the Monarchs and tied for seventh with a three-over 216 while Gunther and Ma both tied for 11th with a pair of 217s (+4).
ODU has finished second in the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate three times (2016, 2019 and 2023) and has finished third four times (2011, 2012, 2015 and 2017). Jamison Randall recorded a six-under par 207 to finish in a three-way tie for first in 2013. David Langley was the individual champion in 2016 with a nine-under 204, and Chad Hess tied for second with a seven-under 206 in 2017. In 2019, Gustav Fransson placed third with a seven-under 206 and teammate Rasmus Konradsson was one stroke behind and tied for fourth at 207.
