NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women’s soccer team concluded a four-match homestand on Sunday night with a 2-0 win over Longwood at the ODU Soccer Stadium.

With the win, ODU (5-2) finished the stretch 3-1 with all three wins coming by shutout after victories over UNC Wilmington (2-0), George Mason (1-0) and Longwood. The clean sheet was the fourth for ODU in its last five games.

“Really pleased with our performance, super pleased because Longwood are a quality team that puts you under so much pressure. They are physical and really, really made us work for this tonight. It’s probably one of the toughest games we played within the state. I was really pleased by how strong we were defensively. We had some really good performances in the backline and then to create the opportunities that we did, and Katie’s (Lutz) goal was the icing on the cake tonight. We are super excited to get a couple of days to rest and get ready for a big game at Auburn on Friday,” said ODU Head Coach Angie Hind.

ODU got on the board at 17:24 of the opening half as a foul inside the 18-yard box resulted in a penalty kick chance. Rhea Kijowski wasted no time blasting one into the net for the early 1-0 advantage.

In the second half, each team threw several scoring chances at the net. Erin Jones made three saves for the Monarchs in the second half to preserve the shutout.

Following a throw-in, Brooke Edwards served a pass into the box where Lutz ripped one into the top of the net with just under nine minutes left for the 2-0 margin. Lutz entered this week without a goal in her career and recorded the game-winner on Thursday before the clincher on Sunday.

For the game, ODU outshot Longwood 19-7 and held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The Monarchs now hit the road to face 13th-ranked Auburn on Friday, Sept. 13 in Auburn, Ala. at 7:30 pm ET.
