NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women’s soccer team finishes a five-match homestand on Sunday, Sept. 8 when they entertain the Longwood Lancers at 6 p.m. inside the ODU Soccer Stadium.

The game will have live stats and be streamed on ESPN+.

ODU comes into the match following a 1-0 win over George Mason on Thursday night. The Monarchs got on the board at 26:16 of the first half when Yuliia Khrystiuk sent a pass into the box where Katie Lutz headed it past the outstretched goalie for the early 1-0 lead. A swarming Monarchs defense kept the Patriots off the board as they outshot the guest 19-2 in the contest.

Longwood heads to Norfolk after falling at Davidson 2-0 on Thursday night. The hosts scored two goals in a 30-second span of the second half to take the victory. Through six matches, the Lancers have scored goals by Taylor Hoag and Coryn Silberstein. 

ABOUT ODU

ODU’s season-opening win over VCU was its first against the Rams in Norfolk since 2008.

Following the win at W&M, Emily Bredek was named Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week. She had nine saves in the two ODU wins against W&M and UNCW.  The nine saves against W&M were a career high for her and the clean sheet was her first of the season and 15th of her career.

Bredek and Ashlynn Kulha were named to the preseason All-Sun Belt Conference team, while the Monarchs were picked to finish first by the league coaches. Click here for that release.

Through six matches, Rhea Kijowski leads the Monarchs with two goals. Brooke Edwards, Andrea Balcazar Algarin, Khrystiuk, Thrysoe, Lutz and Mullen have scored one goal apiece for the Monarchs while Laura Klebek, Mullen, Algarin, Khrystiuk and Kijowski have one assist each. Kijowski has taken 19 shots and 10 on goal to lead the team.

In goal, Bredek has recorded 16 saves in five games with a save percentage of .842 and a goals against average of 0.74. Erin Jones has made five saves in three games with a .714 save percentage and a goals against average of 1.03.

The match with LSU wasn’t the only contest for the Monarchs against the SEC as they’ll visit Auburn on Friday, September 13. The Tigers enter this week ranked 13th in the latest United Soccer Coaches National Poll.

ABOUT LONGWOOD

The Lancers have been outscored 12-2 in six matches thus far in 2024. They have lost to Richmond (2-0), Loyola, Md. (1-0), App State (2-0), Liberty (3-0) and Davidson (2-0) with a tie against Western Carolina (2-2).

Sunny Ferren and Emma Jones have assisted on the goals by Hoag and Silberstein this year.

Sara Curtis has started all six matches in goal and has recorded 22 saves with a 2.00 goals against average.
