NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion University Football linebacker Jason Henderson has been named a semifinalist for the 2024 William V. Campbell Trophy, the National Football Foundation announced on Wednesday.
The award recognizes an individual as the absolute best in the country for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership, and the candidates also comprise the pool of nominees for the 2024 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Awards Presented by Fidelity Investments.
The 203 semifinalists have been nominated by their schools as the best all-around student-athlete on their respective football teams. Each nominee must be a senior who will complete his final year of eligibility during the 2024 season or a graduate student or graduate transfer who has already earned a degree and will participate during the 2024 season; have a GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale; have outstanding football ability as a first team player or significant contributor and have demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship. The candidates come from all levels of play in the NCAA and the NAIA.
A native of Dingmans Ferry, Pennsylvania, Henderson is a two-time All-American and two-time first-team All-Sun Belt Conference honoree. He has led the country in tackles per game each of the last two seasons and in 2022, set the ODU and Sun Belt records for tackles in a season with 186.
ODU’s first ever first-team FBS All-American, Henderson set an ODU record with 19.5 tackles for loss last season, which ranked fourth in the country, and finished the year with 170 tackles and four sacks. He finished the 2023 campaign with 11 double-digit tackle games and led the team in tackles nine times.
