NORFOLK, Va. – Brooke Edwards was on the receiving end of a Yuliia Khrystiuk feed at the 82:49 mark of the second half and found the back of the net as Old Dominion and Coastal Carolina ended in a 1-1 draw in Sun Belt Conference Women’s Soccer action Friday night.

“I thought our performance tonight was excellent. Thought we pressed the ball so well. I thought we created so many great opportunities and just put them right at the keeper, which is really unfortunate. Of course, when you have that much of the play, it’s inevitable that the opponent is going to break away at some point. Credit to them, they put their chance away,” said ODU Head Coach Angie Hind.

In a contest that saw ODU (5-3-1, 0-0-1) hold a 28-4 advantage in shots and 11-2 in shots on goal, the visiting Chanticleers got the first tally of the night with just under 14 minutes left in the contest as Olivia Gorteski served the ball ahead to Tamlyn Parkes who found Julia Ziegenfuss in front of the net for an early 1-0 Coastal Carolina lead at 70:55.

The Monarchs responded by pressing the action and getting a chance as Khrystiuk was on the left wing and found Edwards in the box who found the back of the net at 82:49 for a 1-1 score.

ODU peppered Coastal Carolina (4-3-3, 0-0-1) goalie Vivienne Carr on the night as the Monarchs had 14 shots in each half. Carr made 10 saves in the contest. ODU netminder Erin Jones made one save in the game. The Monarchs had several chances just missed or hit off the crossbar.

“The character we showed to get back into the game is what this team is all about. I am so proud of them for that. All we wanted to do was to get back into the game and then continue to push it to win it. We are disappointed that we didn’t take the points that maybe our performance deserved, but we took a point. In this conference it is going to be super tight, so that point just might help us down the road,” said Hind.

ODU is back in action on Thursday night hosting ULM at 7 p.m. at the ODU Soccer Stadium.
