WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Old Dominion women’s soccer team got two goas in a just under three-minute span of the first half and made it stand as they defeated William & Mary 2-0 on Thursday night at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field.

“We started the game so well tonight. I thought we looked bright, sharp, moved the ball well and created a lot of really good chances,” said ODU Head Coach Angie Hind. “Inevitably, when you go up so early there are going to be phases when the opponent comes into the game and when they did defensively we stood strong. Emily Bredek especially had a really good performance tonight!”

“Really pleased for the team, it's another good win against a quality side and a local rival,” she added.

Freshman Brooke Edwards got the Monarchs on the board first at the 5:05 mark as she was on the receiving end of a touch feed from Andrea Balcazar Algarin and she slotted it into the far corner of the net for the early 1-0 advantage.

A little less than three minutes later Rhea Kijowski sent a touch pass across the box and Algarin blasted one to put ODU up 2-0 7:58 into the contest.

Emily Bredek made three saves in the first half, including a couple point blank shot attempts. One W&M corner kick opportunity nearly found the back of the net, but Algarin was at the right spot and headed that chance away.

ODU (2-1) had a couple more chances in the first half, but the Tribe dug in and kept the margin at 2-0 heading into halftime.

In the second half, Bredek was tested with six shot attempts by the Tribe as she recorded her first clean sheet of the season and 15th of her career. The Tribe outshot ODU in the second half 9-7.

The Monarchs peppered Jazzy Lorenz in goal for the Tribe as she was forced to make five saves on the night and all in the second half.

On the night, W&M held a 15-13 advantage in shots, while each team had five corner kicks.

ODU now will start a four-match homestand on Sunday afternoon hosting UNC Wilmington at 1 p.m. at the ODU Soccer Stadium.
