NORMAN, Okla. – The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) has announced its 2023-24 Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars and Old Dominion men's golfers Jakob Chicoyne, Kazuki Yamauchi, Jacob Gunther and Kaijun Ma have all earned the distinction. In addition, the Monarchs also earned the GCAA’s 2023-24 Outstanding Team Academic Award.
The four Monarchs are among 535 NCAA Division I athletes from 181 schools to be named All-America Scholars this year. In order to be eligible for the award, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically. In addition, they must have participated in at least 50 percent of their team's competitive rounds, own a stroke average under 76.0, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.
For the Outstanding Team Academic Award, a team must have earned at least a 3.0 GPA based on a 4.0 scale.
This marks the second time Chicoyne and Gunther have been named GCAA All-America Scholars and it is the first time for Yamauchi and Ma. As a team, the Monarchs combined for a team GPA of 3.58 for 2023-24, with a 3.60 for the fall semester and a 3.56 for the spring.
