Jason Henderson Named to Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List

NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion senior linebacker Jason Henderson has been named to the Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List, the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) announced on Tuesday. The Nagurski Trophy is given to the top defensive player in the country chosen by the FWAA and the Charlotte Touchdown Club.

A two-time All-America honoree, Henderson led the country in tackles per game the last two seasons. He recorded14.2 tackles per game and finished the year with 170 tackles. He totaled a single-season ODU record 19.5 tackles for loss and ranked third in the country with 1.6 tackles for loss per game. In 2022, he led the country with 186 tackles and 15.5 tackles per game.

Henderson earned first-team All-America honors in 2023 from multiple media outlets, including Walter Camp, and The Sporting News and second-team honors from the FWAA, AP and USA Today. A native of Dingmans Ferry, Pennsylvania, Henderson earned All-America honors in 2022, receiving second-team honors from the FWAA and USA Today and third-team accolades by the AP.

Henderson and the Monarchs open the 2024 season on Saturday, Aug, 31 at South Carolina.
