MIDLOTHIAN, Va. – Old Dominion women’s golfers Lucia Gonzalez and Carley Rudolf competed in the 2nd Women’s Open of Virginia this past Monday through Wednesday at Independence Golf Club in Midlothian, Virginia. Both Monarchs made the final cut. 

Gonzalez, a native of Monterrey, Mexico, started the Open with a one-under par 71 and followed with rounds of 74 and 76 to finished tied for 12th at five-over 221.

Rudolf, a Virginia Beach, Virginia native, carded a pair of 73s for her first two trips around the course. She then turned in a 79 in Wednesday’s final round to tie for 21st with a nine-over 225.

Faith Garcia also played in the event and shot an opening round of 81, but had to withdraw during the second round due to injury.

Created by the Virginia State Golf Association and Middle Atlantic PGA, the Women’s Open of Virginia was introduced in 2023 and marked the first time that female amateurs and professionals played together for a championship in the Commonwealth.

The three-day, 54-hole stroke-play tournament is open to all female golfers regardless of membership or residency status and amateurs are eligible to receive World Amateur Golf Ranking points in the event.
