NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women's tennis returns to the home courts of the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center as they will host Texas State on Saturday and Louisiana on Sunday with both matches starting at 10 a.m.
 
"Texas State and Louisiana were amongst our toughest conference matches last season. They're gritty and compete hard. I expect a pair of tough matches this weekend," said ODU Head Coach Dominic Manilla.
 
ALL TIME VS. TEXAS STATE
This will be the third ever meeting between the teams as ODU took a 4-0 victory on April 28, 2023, in the opening round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament in Peachtree City, Georgia. Allison Isaacs, Shahar Biran, Sofia Johnson and Alexandra Viktorovitch took straight set wins in singles to lock up the match.
The teams met in the regular season last year in San Marcos, Texas as the Monarchs won 4-3.
 
ALL TIME VS. LOUISIANA
ODU won the initial meeting between the schools 4-0 on March 10, 2023, at Louisiana. After a three-hour rain delay, the Monarchs took the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. In singles, Johnson and Biran won in straight sets and Viktorovitch took a three-set win at No. 4 to lock up the win.
 
ABOUT ODU (6-5, 2-0)
The Monarchs went 1-0 on their road trip last weekend defeating Southern Miss 4-2 on Saturday and having their match at South Alabama rained out.
 
Against Southern Miss, the Golden Eagles won the doubles point but ODU bounced back in singles with wins by Johnson, Isaacs, Viktorovitch and Ulyana Romanova for the 4-2 victory.
 
Rasskouskaia leads in spring dual wins going 8-1, while Johnson (7-1) and Romanova (7-3) are right behind. In doubles, Johnson and Rasskouskaia lead the team this spring going 6-4 at No. 1.
 
ABOUT TEXAS STATE (8-2, 2-0)
The Bobcats dropped their first two matches of the spring, but have bounced back with eight straight wins including conference victories over Southern Miss (4-1) and Coastal Carolina (4-2).
 
Andrea Pineda leads Texas State in spring singles wins going 8-1 mainly at No. 5 spot, while Callie Creath (6-2) and Sofia Fortuno (6-3) are close behind. In doubles, Fortuno and Maria Lora are 6-2 mainly at No. 2 in the lineup.
 
ABOUT LOUISIANA (4-5, 1-2)
The Ragin' Cajuns have lost their last two league matches falling to Georgia Southern (4-1) and Coastal Carolina (4-2). They opened Sun Belt Conference play with a 5-2 win over in-state rival ULM on March 9.
 
Carla Urchoegula leads Louisiana in singles wins this spring going 5-4 at No. 1. Paige Duncan, Nina Krecklenberg and Cristina Tchanichev all have four wins in singles. In doubles, Krecklenberg and Kamea Medora lead the team with a 3-0 mark at No. 3.
 
NEXT UP
ODU starts a three-match road trip next weekend as they visit Arkansas State on March 28 and ULM on March 30 before ending at JMU on April 6.
