Men's Tennis Blanks South Alabama 4-0

NORFOLK, Va. – In a rematch of the 2023 Sun Belt Conference title match, the 48th-ranked Old Dominion men's tennis team blanked South Alabama 4-0 on Friday afternoon at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
 
"Our goal was to improve by 5-10% from Wednesday and I think we accomplished that today. We will enjoy a weekend off with a 2-0 start in conference play, but at the end it is just a snapshot. We got to put in some good work early next week to get ready for Georgia State," said ODU Head Coach Dominik Mueller.
 
In doubles, ODU (12-4, 2-0) took wins at the two and three spots to claim the point. Cosme Rolland de Ravel and Codie van Schalkwyk defeated Rostislav Halfinger and Javier Montoya 6-3 at the two spot. A couple minutes later, Maxime Mareschal-Hay and Yanis Moundir locked up the point with a 6-4 win over Juan Accossatto and Harold van Raemdonck at No. 3.
 
Singles saw the Monarchs take straight-set wins at No. 1, 4 and 5 spots for the clincher. Connor van Schalkwyk, ranked 83rd nationally, got ODU up 2-0 with a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 1 over Clements. Four minutes later, Moundir pushed the advantage to 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 4 over Accossatto where he was down 2-1 in the final set and stormed back for the victory.
 
Four minutes later, Aryan Saleh locked up the match win for ODU with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Braden Hannig at No. 5. Saleh jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the final set and cruised for the victory.
 
ODU now heads to Georgia for a pair of matches next weekend starting at Georgia State on March 22 at 3 p.m.
