NORFOLK, Va. – Alex Lane went 3-for-6 and drove in six runs to help lead a 17-hit attack for visiting Northeastern as they defeated Old Dominion 17-9 to wrap up a three-game baseball series on Sunday afternoon.

"We have pitched very well this year. Today we were very sloppy on the mound. 17 hits and 13 free base runners will get you beat every time. The guys didn't quit after getting down a bunch. I thought our approaches at the plate were much better this weekend. We will get back to work Tuesday with Princeton," said ODU Head Coach Chris Finwood.

Lane put the Huskies on the board in the first inning with a three-run home run to right field. The lead grew to 6-0 in the second after RBI singles from Luke Beckstein, Lane and a third run on a passed ball.

Northeastern (8-4) used a two-run single from Lane to highlight a four-run third as the lead grew to 10-0. After giving up a run in the top of the fourth, the Monarchs got on the board in the home half of the inning. Jake Ticer opened with a walk, before with two outs, Evan Holman plated Ticer with a double down the right field line. TJ Aiken followed with a single to right to score Holman making the margin 11-2.

The visitors scored a run in the fifth and three more in the sixth, but ODU answered with four in their half of the sixth inning. Pinch-hitter Jackson Tone opened with a single and advanced on a walk to pinch-hitter Hunter Cole with an ensuing walk to Kenny Levari loading the bases. After a strikeout to Jack Slater, pinch-hitter Nick Mueller ripped a triple down the right field line to clear the bases. Carter Sunderman then grounded out to plate Mueller making the margin 15-6.

ODU (9-6) kept Northeastern off the board in the seventh, but gave up a Tyler MacGregor single in the eighth to score Jimmy Sullivan who opened the inning being hit by a pitch for a 16-6 deficit.

The Monarchs pushed three across in their half of the eighth as Levari opened with a double to right center and Slater followed being hit by a pitch. After a strikeout to Mueller, Maverick Stallings walked to load the bases. Kyle Edwards then smashed a single to left to score Slater and Levari. The throw home ricocheted off Levari allowing Edwards to move up to second and Stallings to third. Steven Meier followed with a groundout to score Edwards making the margin 16-9.

Northeastern scored one more in the ninth as Sullivan singled up the middle to score Harrison Feinberg who started the inning with a single for the eventual final score.

Levari and Holman had two hits apiece for the Monarchs. Holman scored a run and drove in one, while Levari scored two runs and walked twice.  Mueller was 1-for-2 with three RBIs, while Edwards was 1-for-4 with two RBIs.

Brandon Pond took the loss for the Monarchs throwing 1.2 innings and allowing five hits and six runs. On the day, the Monarchs threw eight pitchers.

MacGregor joined Lane in the three-hit club going 3-for-3 with three runs scored and driving in a pair. Wyatt Scotti took the win throwing four inning and striking out five.

ODU returns to action on Tuesday as they start a two-game set with Princeton at 3 p.m. at the Bud Metheny Ballpark.
