KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Old Dominion Men's Swimming team placed fourth out of six teams in the ASUN Championships this week. The team scored 342 points in the events. Bryce Mortimer set a team record in the 200 breaststroke and Gustaf Hansson broke his previous team record in the 100 backstroke. Mortimer also made an NCAA B qualification time.
ODU had two swimmers score points in the 500 freestyle. Grey Bremer placed ninth with a time of 4:27.54 and Yagiz Ari placed 16th with a time of 4:443.76.
Mortimer scored for the Monarchs in the 200 IM with a fifth place finish in a time of 1:46.86.
In the 50 freestyle, Zach Redding took 10th with a time of 20.26.
In the 200 medley relay, ODU's team of Hansson, Mortimer, Jamie Cleaver and Ryan Lincicum took fourth with a time of 1:29.60.
ODU placed fifth in the 200 freestyle relay. The team of Cleaver, Hansson, Ben Schattenberg and Redding finished in 1:21.38.
Two Monarchs scored points in the men's 100 butterfly. Jordan Davis took seventh with a time of 48.35 and Cleaver took 10th with a time of 48.38.
Drew Vanden Heuvel took 14th in the 400 IM with a time of 4:03.68.
Four swimmers placed in the 200 freestyle. Redding took 10th with a time of 1:39.12, Schattenberg took 11th with a time of 1:39.43, Bremer placed 12th with a time of 1:39.94 and Lincicum took 15th with a time of 1:41.24.
In the 400 medley relay, ODU placed fourth. The squad of Hansson, Mortimer, Davis and Redding finished in 3:13.79.
Three Monarchs scored points in the 100 backstroke, Hansson placed fifth and broke his previous school record with a time of 48.11, Schattenberg took 13th with a time of 49.93 and Davis placed 14th with a time of 50.11.
In the 100 breaststroke, Mortimer placed 10th with a time of 54.27 and Dawson Truong took 13th with a time of 54.70.
In the 200 butterfly, Cleaver took seventh with a time of 1:50.78, Alexander Schreck took 11th with a time of 1:50.26 and Tristen Wells finished in 14th with a time of 1:52.85.
ODU took fourth with a team of Cleaver, Bremer, Schatteneberg and Redding finishing with a time of 6:37.84 in the 800 freestyle relay.
In the 1650 freestyle, Ari took fifth with a time of 15:44.40, Bremer placed 10th with a time of 15:52.05, Schreck took 11th with a time of 16:01.90 and Carson Doll placed 12th with a time of 16:03.60.
Redding took 10th in the 100 freestyle with a time of 44.68.
In the 200 backstroke, Hansson took 12th with a time of 1:48.40 and Schattenberg took 13th with a time of 1:49.03.
Mortimer took second in the 200 breaststroke breaking a school record with a time of 1:55.58. Michael Marotta placed 14th with a time of 2:03.42.
The final event was the 400 freestyle relay which ODU's team of Cleaver, Davis, Schattenberg and Redding took fourth with a time of 2:59.91.
