Women's Swimming Places Fourth At Sun Belt Championships

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Old Dominion Women's Swimming team finished the Sun Belt Championships in fourth with a total of 456 points. 

The first event of the day was the women's 1650. ODU had four swimmers score points. Brynn Jewell took eighth with a time of 17:37.48, Sophia Kapla took ninth with a time of 17:40.51, Lilly Cleal placed 11th with a time of 18:21.09 and Sydney Welker finished in 12th with a time of 18:32.24.

The next event was the 200 backstroke, six swimmers scored points for the Monarchs. Kiersten Donnelly placed eighth with a time of 2:04.06, Martina Ciriesi took ninth with a time of 2:01.45, Kristi Mosley finished in 10th with a time of 2:05.06, Mallory Mackay took 11th with a time of 2:05.25, Lizzy Thomas finished in 13th with a time of 2:08.84 and Samantha Allred placed 14th with a time of 2:10.51.

The next event was the 100 freestyle, two Monarchs scored points. Lauren Masters took ninth with a time of 51.96 and Mary Dunworth placed 15th with a time of 52.76.

Two Monarchs secured points in the 200 breaststroke. Julia de Camargo Gusso took 14th with a time of 2:24.55 and Marian Cheramy took 16th with a time of 2:29.23.

The 200 butterfly saw four Monarchs scoring points. Tetiana Yevminova placed ninth with a time of 2:04.80, Brina Uhlin took 11th with a time of 2:07.79, Kristina Zachary took 14th with a time of 2:11.50 and Angela Sicaja took 16th with a time of 2:11.77.

The final event was the 400 freestyle relay. The team of Dunworth, Yevminova, Sicaja and Masters took fourth with a time of 3:31.10.

The Monarchs men's swimming team is in action next Wednesday through Saturday at the ASUN Championships in Knoxville, Tennessee.
