DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Old Dominion women's golf team is headed to Florida for the third time this spring, this time for the 2023 Sun Belt Women's Golf Championship on April 16-18 at LPGA International's Hills Course in Daytona Beach, Florida. All 13 Sun Belt women's golf programs will compete in the three-day championship.
This is the fourth-straight year the Sun Belt has held its championship at LPGA International and Georgia Southern is the defending champion. The Hills Course features a par of 72 and 6,200 total yards. All three rounds will feature a split-tee format beginning at 8 a.m., with seven teams teeing off from the first hole and the other six going off from the 10th hole. The Monarchs will be paired with James Madison and ULM for Sunday's first round and will tee off from the first hole between 9:30-10:06 a.m.
Additionally, all three rounds will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and live stats will be available on GolfStat.
"We are excited for an opportunity to compete for a conference championship. Hopefully we can put it all together this week and have a strong finish to the season," said head coach Mallory Kane.
ODU posted five Top-10 finishes in 2022-23, to include tying for second at the Badger Invitational on Sept. 18-20 and taking second outright at the Lady Paladin Invitational on Sept. 23-25. The Monarchs came in fifth at The Ally, hosted by Mississippi State on Oct. 17-18, placed sixth at the Columbia Classic on Feb. 11-13, and tied for seventh at The Show at Spanish Trail on Feb. 20-21.
The team tied for third at last year's Conference USA Championship as Jana Melichova and Federica Torre both finished in the top 10. Melichova carded a 231 (+15) to tie for third and earn All-Tournament Team honors while Torre tied for eighth with a 54-hole total of 234 (+18). Melichova then went on to become the first ODU women's golfer in program history to advance to the NCAA Championships after tying for third at the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional.
