VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Old Dominion women's golfer Puneet Bajwa saved her best round for last as the freshman from Mohali, India shot a three-under par 67 on Sunday to finish in second place at the Evie Odom Invitational.
Bajwa entered the day in a tie for third and made another four birdies, with three of them on the back nine. Her five-under total of 205 was just two strokes behind the individual medalist, Makenzie Cooper of Chattanooga. Bajwa edged Kent State's Leon Takagi by one stroke, and Takagi's teammate Noramol Nuchsila placed fourth with a three-under 207.
Lucia Gonzalez moved up three spots to finish tied for 11th with a three-over 213 after posting an even round of 70 for her final 18 holes. Klara Wildhaber tied for 46th with a 54-hole total of 223 (+13), Carley Rudolf tied for 52nd with a 225 (+15), and Leiu Yuenyong place 80th with a three-round total of 239 (+29). For ODU's individuals, Faith Garcia turned in a 14-over 224 to tie for 50th, Sarah Mardani's 16-over 226 tied for 57th, and Minami Kudo ended up 79th with a 26-over 236.
Bajwa was second in par-5 scoring with an average of 4.50 and was also tied for third with a 3.83 par-4 average. Bajwa tallied 13 birdies throughout the Invitational, Gonzalez made 10, and Garcia led the Monarchs in pars with 38.
In the team standings, ODU turned in a final round of 10-over 290 to remain in fifth place at 866 (+26). UCF captured the team title with a 10-over 850 and Kent State placed second with a 15-over 855.
The Monarchs will round out their fall schedule with a trip to West Point, Mississippi on Oct. 23-25 to play in The Ally, hosted by Mississippi State at Old Waverly Golf Club.
