NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women's soccer team closed out non-conference play on Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 victory over High Point at a steamy ODU Soccer Complex.

ODU (5-0-2) recorded its sixth shutout on the season and continues its best start since 2019 when they opened 6-0-1. That team also went 6-0-2 against non-conference opposition.

"We are delighted with this result tonight and even more so with the performance. It was probably our best showing to date on the ball," said ODU Head Coach Angie Hind. "Defensively I thought we were organized and played on the front foot for most of the game which gave us a platform to have a lot of the ball and be able to play."

The Monarchs dominated the contest outshooting High Point (2-3-3) 27-3, including a 14-1 advantage in shots on goal as the teams battled through a rainy first half.

Megan Watts broke through with a feed from Jenna Daveler and put it into the lower right side at the 21:46 mark for an early 1-0 ODU lead.

ODU kept pressure going in the second half and forced a corner kick where Katie Lutz served it into the box and Thalia Morisi headed it in for a 2-0 Monarch lead at the 72:41 mark.

That constant pressure paid off again 11 minutes later as Mia Serna served a corner kick in and Alaina McKnight played the bounce perfectly and gave the hosts a 3-0 lead at 83:47.

Emily Bredek recorded her fifth solo clean sheet and sixth overall making one save on the night, while Ellyn Casto made 11 saves for High Point including eight in the second half.

"We went deep tonight, every player really contributed and it was a night of firsts for many of our players. Hopefully a first of many more goals and assists from all of them," said Hind. "This win sets us up nice for the next chapter in our season. We are excited for the start of conference play next week."

Old Dominion begins Sun Belt Conference play on Friday night in Conway, South Carolina facing Coastal Carolina. They'll return home on Thursday, September 21 to host Louisiana.
