Women's Soccer Heads To VCU For In-State Showdown Thursday

NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women's soccer team, fresh off a 2-0 win over Campbell on Sunday night, head up Interstate 64 to take on in-state rival VCU on Thursday night at 6 p.m.
 
ODU (2-0-0) started its first week of the season with a pair of clean sheets in defeating George Mason 3-0 on August 17 and the win over Campbell. The Monarchs hold a 40-8 shot advantage in two matches and a 12-4 margin in corner kicks. In goal, Emily Bredek has recorded both clean sheets stopping two shots in the wins.
 
VCU (1-1-0) opened its season with a 2-1 loss against Liberty on August 18 and then defeated UNC Wilmington 5-0 two nights later on the road.
 
 
ABOUT ODU
Ece Turkoglu leads the team in scoring with two goals and one assist for five points, while Anna Tørsløv is next with one goal and one assist for three points. Andrea Balcazar Algarin and Thalia Morisi join them in the goals scored category with one apiece. Assist wise, Rhea Kijowski, Ashlynn Kuhla, Madison Micheletti and Riley Mullen join Turkoglu and Tørsløv with one each.
 
With a win Thursday, the Monarchs will have their most wins to start a season since 2008 when they opened 5-0. The Monarchs last defeated VCU on Sept. 8, 2019 with a 4-3 win in Richmond as Megan Watts had the game-winner in the 75th minute.
 
Turkoglu's two goals and one assist in two games matches her season output from last year.
 
ABOUT VCU
Milica Bulatovic and Anna Bagley have scored two goals each to lead the Rams after the first week of the season, while Jordan Faveri has one. Bulatovic, Bagley and Kanna Matsuhisa have one assist each.
 
In goal, Allison Karpovich earned the win against UNC Wilmington with five saves. Stevie Mika has seen action in both matches allowing two goals in the loss to Liberty in the opener.
