NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion women's soccer team begins its 2023 season on Thursday night at 6 p.m. rekindling an in-state rivalry as they visit George Mason.
 
Old Dominion begins year two in the Sun Belt Conference after winning the 2022 league tournament crown and ensuing NCAA Tournament bid. George Mason went 1-10-7 in 2022 and 0-5-5 in Atlantic 10 action.
 
George Mason leads the all-time series 15-9-2 as the teams have alternated wins in the last six matchups.
 
ABOUT ODU
The Monarchs return two of the top three scorers from last season in Megan Watts and Ece Turkoglu. Watts had five goals, two of those game-winners, and three assists, while Turkoglu recorded two goals and one assist.
 
Erin Jones and Emily Bredek split duty in the net last year and both return in 2023. Jones recorded four clean sheets and Bredek added three.

ABOUT GEORGE MASON
The Patriots, under third-year head coach Manya Puppione, recorded a 3-1 win against Howard last season for its lone victory.
 
Sophie Davidson is the leading returning scorer for George Mason with three goals.
 
Goalkeeper Selamawit Caldart is the top returning goalie for the Patriots as she recorded 93 saves and a .750 save percentage. She had one clean sheet last year against App State.
