NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men's tennis team dropped a tough 6-1 decision on Friday to VCU inside the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
In doubles, the Monarchs got the first win as Francois Le Tallec and Cosme Rolland De Ravel scored a 6-1 win over Joaquim Almeida and Romain Gales. The Rams answered with a pair of 6-4 wins at the top two spots to claim the doubles point.
Singles saw Rolland De Ravel even the match for ODU (5-4) with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Almeida at line five. VCU (8-1) took a 3-1 lead, but the final three matches all went to a third set which the Rams took each one to earn the win.
ODU heads up to Williamsburg on Saturday afternoon to face the Tribe of William & Mary at 1 p.m.

"The final score doesn't reflect how close it was today. I think we saw a lot of progress from last week and quality wise maybe our best performance of the year, which is very encouraging. When we start winning these close sets, I'm confident we will take off. Overall, if we keep playing the level of today, we will end up winning a lot of matches moving forward."
