NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men's tennis team split a doubleheader on Friday at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center as they fell 5-2 to Auburn and rebounded to defeat Norfolk State 7-0.
In the Auburn match, the guests took the doubles point winning the last two matches. ODU got the first win at line three as Francois Le Tallec and Cosme Rolland De Ravel defeated Tyler Stice and Alejandro Moreno 6-0.
Singles saw the Monarchs get a pair of wins at line two and line five with each going to a tie-breaker third set. Codie van Schalkwyk took a 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 1-0 (10-8) win at line two over Will Nolan and Jakob Cadonau took a 1-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) win over Jan Galka at line five.
In the second match against Norfolk State, the Monarchs got the doubles point with wins at the top two spots as Luca Maldoner and Nicola Vidal won 6-3 at line one and Rolland De Ravel and Yanis Moundir took a 6-2 win at line two.
Singles saw the Monarchs win four of the five contested matches in straight sets, while Luca Maldoner finished the day with a three-set win at line three over Hugo Massoni Lena 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (14-12).
ODU (5-3) now will host VCU on Friday, Feb. 17 at 1 p.m.

"We've got to learn how to start matches 100% from the beginning. We have a tendency to feel our way into matches and start playing well when we realize we are in it. But that doesn't work against good teams. We have got to start matches with that confidence, without validation of the scoreboard. We got punched in the face quite nicely by Auburn today and there is no other way then getting back up."
