PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Old Dominion men's tennis team split a pair of matches in Philadelphia on Saturday by the identical 6-1 scores. ODU (3-1) dropped a decision Saturday morning at Penn, while rebounding across town with a win over Drexel.

In the morning match at Penn, the doubles tandem of Jakob Cadonau and Codie van Schalkwyk got a win at the two spot with a 6-3 decision. Singles saw the Monarchs get on the board with a win by Cosme Rolland De Ravel at the four spot with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) victory.

In the afternoon match, the Monarchs got out to a quick start with wins at one and three doubles to take the team point. Luca Maldoner and Nicola Vidal started it at the three spot with a 6-3 win, while the nationally-ranked tandem of Younes Lalami and Brandon Perez clinched the doubles with a 6-4 win at the top spot.

Van Schalkwyk got the Monarchs on the board in singles with a win at the top spot over Alan Jesudason 6-4, 6-3. Perez followed at three with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Daniel Dudockin and Francois Le Tallec clinched the dual win for ODU at the two spot in a 6-4, 6-4 win over Alex De Sousa.

Vidal and Yanis Moundir finished off the points for ODU with wins at the five and six spots as Vidal won 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-5) and Moundir took a 6-4, 6-2 victory.

ODU (3-1) returns to the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center for a big weekend starting on Friday night with a 6 pm tilt against the Virginia Tech Hokies. On Sunday, ODU will host Wisconsin at 11 a.m.

ODU Head Coach Dominik Mueller On Weekend
I am very pleased with our doubles play in both matches. Our freshman came back a break twice and were in position to clinch the doubles point for us against Penn, but that's a learning curve them. In singles, I thought we battled ourselves more than the opponent and you can't effort that against a good opponent. I'm glad how we responded against Drexel but we have to fix some things before next weekend.
