Men’s Golf to Play in Georgia State Invitational This Week

NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men's golf team is on the road this Monday and Tuesday as the Monarchs head to Duluth, Georgia to play in the Georgia State Invitational, hosted by the Panthers at Berkeley Hills Country Club.
 
The 16-team field will play 36 holes on Monday, beginning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start to the opening round. Tuesday will feature an 8 a.m. start with teams teeing off of the first and 10th holes.
 
ODU and Georgia State will also be competing against Appalachian State, Austin Peay State, Central Michigan, Florida A&M, Jacksonville State, James Madison, Lipscomb, Marshall, Nicholls State, North Alabama, Southern Illinois, Tennessee Tech, Valdosta State and Wright State.
 
Last year at the Georgia State Invitational, the Monarchs combined for a three-over par 867 to tie for seventh out of 15 teams. Wright State came in first place with an 18-under 846, Lafayette College was second with an 8-under 856, and Tennessee Tech and Georgia State both turned in three-under 861s to tie for third. Oakland's Thomas Giroux was the individual medalist as he fired a 12-under par 204 and Mercer's Tobias Jonsson was two strokes behind him with a 206 to place second.
 
For the Monarchs, Gustav Fransson recorded a final round of five-under 67 to finish tied for third at 208 (-8). Rasmus Konradsson tallied a two-under 214 to tie for 12th and Jakob Chicoyne made his collegiate debut, tying for 51st at 223 (+7). Jakob Henriksson posted a 226 (+10) to tie for 62nd and Filip Wetterqvist's 54-hole tally of 227 (+11) tied him for 66th.
