VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – After a pair of runner-up finishes to start its fall season, the Old Dominion women's golf team looks to continue its strong play as the Monarchs host the Evie Odom Invitational this week at Princess Anne Country Club in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Originally scheduled for this Friday through Sunday, the start of the tournament has been moved up to Thursday to avoid inclement weather expected this weekend due to Hurricane Ian. The opening round of the Invitational is set for a 1:30 p.m. shotgun start. The 15-team field will continue play with the second round on Friday morning, with the possibility of continuing right into the third round should the forecast cooperate.

Live stats for the Invitational will be available through Golfstat.

In addition to ODU, this year's field will include teams from Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, College of Charleston, East Carolina, High Point, Indiana, James Madison, Middle Tennessee State, Minnesota, North Florida, Penn State, Princeton, Sacramento State and South Florida.

The field features two Sun Belt Conference rivals in JMU and Coastal Carolina, as well as three teams from the Big 10. North Florida won last year's Atlantic Sun Conference Championship and Princeton captured the Ivy League Championship. Sacramento State has traveled to Virginia Beach each year the tournament has been hosted.

This year marks the fourth time that ODU women's golf has hosted a collegiate tournament at the Princess Anne Country Club, and it is also the second year under the name Evie Odom Invitational.

Tournament namesake Evie Odom made the largest contribution to a woman's sport in the history of ODU Athletics. Her support of ODU women's golf and the tournament provides the team with a tremendous boost in their ability to compete nationally.

Last year saw Central Florida win the team title with a one-over par 841 and UCF's Pat Piddon was the individual medalist with a 10-under score of 200. Jana Melichova shot a final round of five-under 65, marking the best round in program history. She finished the Invitational tied for third with a 54-hole total of 206 (-4). Melichova turned pro the summer after winning a Ladies European Tournament in her home country of the Czech Republic.
