NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion University football opens fall camp today as it begins preparation for the 2022 season.

Old Dominion opens the 2022 slate against Virginia Tech on Friday, Sept. 2 at Kornblau Field at S.B. Ballard Stadium. The Monarchs open the season on a Friday for the second-straight year after beginning the season at Wake Forest last year. It will be the first time in program history the Monarchs open a season at home against a Power-Five program.

ODU returns 19 starts from the 2021 squad that won five-straight games to end the regular season and earn a bid to the Myrtle Beach Bowl. Tight End Zack Kuntz and Ali Jennings III were named first-team preseason All-Sun Belt, while Nick Saldiveri was named to the second team. Running back Blake Watson is fresh off the first 1,000-yard season by an ODU back since Ray Lawry in 2016, and he was named to the Maxwell Award (best player) preseason watch list and Doak Walker (best running back) Award preseason watch list.

The defense returns seven starters and pair that were named C-USA honorable mention last year in Tre Hawkins III and Ryan Henry. R'Tarriun Johnson is ODU's leading returning tackler from a season ago. The redshirt senior made 91 stops and recorded two interceptions last season.

All practices are closed to the general public.

Season tickets for the 2022 football season can still be purchased by going to YNotTix.com or calling 757-683-3360.
