NORFOLK, Va. – Head coach of the Old Dominion men's golf team Murray Rudisill announced today the addition of Jacob Gunther for the 2022-23 season. A native of Stockholm, Sweden, Gunther will join the Monarchs from Division II's Bluefield State.
"Since we're losing both Gustav Fransson and Rasmus Konradsson, it will be good to bring in another Swede to go along with Jakob Henriksson and keep our connection with that country going," Rudisill said. "We expect Jacob to make an impact on the program once he arrives on campus."
Gunther has featured in seven tournaments as a freshman for the Big Blue and already has a pair of wins to his name. Competing in a total of 15 rounds, Gunther owns a 74.53 stroke average.
The Swede made his collegiate debut at the Walley Edgell Collegiate Championship in September and tied for fourth at 4-under 140. In October, he won back-to-back events. His first win came at the USCAA National Championship with a two-round total of 68-71—139 (-5). He posted the exact same score at the Shriner's Hospital Invitational for his second individual medalist finish.
Gunther joins local product Cullen Campbell as the Monarchs' second spring signee. ODU also added Kaijun Ma and Akleksander Bjørge in the fall. All four will join the team for the upcoming season.
