NORFOLK, Va.- Old Dominion University lacrosse battled with Cincinnati but a strong third quarter pushed the Bearcats ahead to stay for a 17-11 win over the Monarchs Saturday afternoon at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.
Cincinnati (7-8, 1-2 AAC) opened the match scoring early in the first but Old Dominion's (5-10, 0-3 AAC) Lilly Siskind answered back quickly to tie the match 1-1. ODU and UC then proceeded to match each other's production with goals coming from Haley O'Connor and Ava Goeller respectively. Molly May got in on the action, scoring a goal from a free position to tie the game at six apiece and providing an assist to O'Connor soon after to tie it again at seven heading into halftime.
May gave ODU an 8-7 lead early in the third before a run of Cincinnati goals from Goeller, Kylie Nause, and Grace Wehland gave the Bearcats a 14-8 in the third quarter. Claire Porter and Siskind cut the deficit to 14-10 but UC added two more from Peyton Mottice and a goal from Grace Wehland sandwiched between a Maddie Mullenbach goal for the final tally.
Siskind scored five goals to lead the Monarchs, while May had a season high five points on two goals and three assists. Lauren Carey was credited with seven caused turnovers and two ground balls. Wehland led the Bearcats with five goals, while Goeller had four.
Jenna Peccia made seven saves in goal for the Monarchs.
Old Dominion is back in action next Saturday against Vanderbilt in its final home game of the season.
