Men’s Golf Finishes Play at Dorado Beach Collegiate

DORADO, P.R. – Gustav Fransson led the way for the Old Dominion men's golf team with a top-25 finish at the Dorado Beach Collegiate. Fransson shot even-par on Tuesday to place in a tie for 22nd at 2-under 214.
 
A senior from Umea, Sweden, Fransson carded five birdies on Tuesday and ended the three-day tournament with 14 – tied for fifth-most among the field of 81 competitors. Fransson was 9-under on the course's par-5 holes, the second-best mark at the tournament.
 
Jakob Henriksson eagled the 542-yard par-5 12th hole for a second consecutive day to finish Tuesday with an even-par 72. He finished the tournament tied for 38th at 1-over 217 and joined Virginia Tech's Connor Johnson Jr. as the only players with multiple eagles at the event.
 
Rasmus Konradsson tallied four birdies on the day, including one on his second-to-last hole, to card a 71 (-1). Konradsson finished at 218 (+2), which was good for a share of 44th.
 
Mason McCoy tied for 74th at 228. Kazuki Yamauchi finished 76th two shots behind McCoy.
 
As a team, the Monarchs put together a three-round score of 9-over 873 at the par-72, 7,112-yard TPC Dorado Beach Sugarcane Course.
 
Hosts UNCG held off a charging Drexel to take win the team competition with a three-day total of 835 (-29). The Spartans shot 11-under 277 on Tuesday. The Dragons carded a 15-under-par score of 273 in the final round to finish four shots behind UNCG. Ball State rounded out the top-three at 22-under.
 
No. 28-ranked Nick Lyerly of UNCG took home individual medalist honors at 14-under 202, edging out the Drexel tandem of Angelo Giantsopoulos and Drue Nicholas by a single stroke.
 
Old Dominion returns to action next Monday and Tuesday with the Donald Ross Collegiate Classic at Mid Pines Golf Club in Southern Pines, North Carolina.
