LYNCHBURG, Va. – Tara Enneking finished in third place in the 200 IM and Laila Webb swam the third fastest time in the 50 freestyle in school history to lead Old Dominion University women's swimming on day two of the Conference USA Championships on Thursday night.
The night started with the 500 freestyle as Elin Kata Sigurgeirsdottir paced ODU with a 14th place finish with a time of 5:02.77. Brynn Jewell secured a 17th place spot with a time of 5:06.67.
Enneking followed in the 200 IM by placing third with a time of 2:00.08. The time is more than two seconds fast than her winning time at last year's C-USA Championships and is the third fastest 200 IM time in ODU history. Martina Ciriesi won the B-Final to come in 10th with a time of 2:03.80.
A freshman from Laurel, Maryland, Webb's time of 23.33 was the third fastest 50 freestyle time in ODU history and just .08 behind Morgan Johnson's 23.25 that she swam in 2013. Webb finished 10th while Mary Dunworth came in 13th with a time of 23.63.
Following the 50 freestyle, ODU was in fifth place but just five points behind third place Florida Atlantic.
In the final event of the night, the Monarchs took fifth in the 200 freestyle relay. The team of Webb, Dunworth, Peyton Turner and Enneking finished with a time of 1:33.62.
Day three continues tomorrow with the prelims beginning at 10:30 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m.
