SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The No. 22 Old Dominion baseball team bounced back in a 6-2 victory over UTSA on Sunday afternoon. The Monarchs split its road series with the Roadrunners.
"I was really proud of our effort today," ODU head coach Chris Finwood said. "We played a really good all-around ball game. Pitching, defense and some timely hits. Ryne Moore was fantastic and so was Hartline and Dean. After a rough day yesterday, we bounced back and really played well. Levari and Battle had a big day offensively and Trice and Bell helped us out on the defense."
Kyle Battle led off the ball game with a home run, giving the Monarchs a 1-0 advantage through two innings. The longball was his 16th of the season, which put him in a tie for the fourth spot in ODU's all-time single season home runs list, tying his former teammate, Vinnie Pasquantino.
Leyton Barry delivered a two-run home run in the third to give UTSA (21-21, 13-14 C-USA) a 2-1 lead.
ODU (33-13, 19-9 C-USA) answered right away, plating three runs in the fourth. Matt Coutney led off with a single and scored the tying run off a passed ball. Ryan Teschko scored Thomas Wheeler, who reached on a fielder's choice. Kenny Levari sent Battle home with a two-out single.
The Monarchs added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth, as the freshman duo of Carter Trice and Levari knocked in runs.
For the day, Levari went 3-for-4, with two RBIs and a walk.
On the mound, Ryne Moore (6-1) earned the win, fanning five batters in 6.0 innings of work. Jason Hartline and Noah Dean came on in relief, combined for 3.0 innings, striking out four Roadrunners.
