Monarchs Prepare for Conference USA Quarterfinal Match

NORFOLK, Va.- The Old Dominion women's soccer team returns to Boca Raton, Florida to play in the quarterfinals of the 2021 Conference USA Tournament against UTSA on Wednesday, Nov. 3. The game can be watched on ESPN+ starting at 1:30 p.m.  

ODU (10-4-1, 6-1-1 C-USA) concluded its regular season with a 2-0 win over Florida Atlantic on Thursday. Carla Morich notched her fifth goal of the season while Morgan Hall recorded her second. Morich is the leading scorer for the Monarchs with Megan Watts just behind her with four goals. Kasey Perry played all 90 minutes, recording one save and achieving her seventh shutout of the season. Emily Roberts contributed to the defensive line, earning herself the final C-USA Defensive Player of the Week award of the season. 

The Monarchs finished as the regular season champions for the Conference USA East Division conceding one goal in their eight matches. Roberts received the final C-USA Defensive player of the Week as well as Conference Defensive Player of the Year and First Team Honors. Perry also received Conference Goalkeeper of the Year and First Team Honors. Ece Turkoglu joined Roberts and Perry receiving First Team Honors.  

Gry Boe Thrysøe and Carla Morich received Third Team Honors. Thrysøe was also named to the All-Freshman Team. Head coach Angie Hind was recognized for her work this season and received the Coach of the Year.  

UTSA (10-4-4, 3-2-3 C-USA) won its first game in the Conference USA Tournament 1-0 after North Texas had an own goal in the 106th minute of play, advancing them to the quarterfinals. Anna Sutter led the Roadrunner offense with four shots while Deja Sandoval and Sarina Russ had three each. Jil Schneider played in the net for UTSA recording two saves on seven shots faced.  

Kendall Kloza, Ellis Patterson, and Anna Sutter received Third Team Honors. Suutter was also named to the All-Freshman Team. 

ODU won 2-0 over UTSA in September when Morgan Hall and Emily Garrick each got their first goals of the season.  

The winner will play the winner of the Rice/Middle Tennessee matchup in the C-USA semifinals on Friday, Nov. 5 at 4:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
