BOCA RATON, Fla.– The Old Dominion women's soccer team won 2-0 against FAU on Thursday night in Boca Raton, Florida to conclude its regular season, notching the second double-digit win season in Angie Hind's eighth year as head coach of the Monarchs.

 

Head coach Angie Hind said, "Incredible. Just incredible. This team has shown such consistency this year and to do what we have done so far and in the manner we have is just fantastic and a real testament to just how good we have been".   

 

With the win, ODU clinched the C-USA East Division and will be the No. 1 seed in the Conference USA Tournament scheduled to take place Nov. 1-7. 

 

The first half was an end-to-end battle, resulting in a 0-0 tie going into halftime. ODU led in shots (5-1), FAU (6-6-4, 4-2-2 C-USA) led in corner kicks (3-2) and each  team recorded one save. 

 

ODU (10-4-1, 6-1-1 C-USA) scored in the 48th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Carla Morich waited in the 18-yard box finishing into the top, center of the goal. The goal is her fifth goal of the season. 

 

The Monarchs made the score 2-0 in the 56th minute. Ece Turkoglu found Morgan Hall with a through ball into the 18-yard box. Hall took an initial shot which was saved by FAU, but got her own rebound scoring her second goal of the season. 
 

Kasey Perry achieved her sixth shutout in conference play, her seventh shutout of the season, while recording one save for the match. 

 

" To play eight games in this conference and concede only one goal is just incredible. We showed again tonight just how much of a squad this really is as so many played a part of this win tonight. That has been the way all season long" said coach Hind. 

 

The 2021 regular season was one that made history for the ODU women's soccer program. This season was the first season the Monarchs went on a five-game unbeaten streak in conference, while recording a total of seven shutouts in conference play. ODU only conceded one goal in eight league matches. As a team, ODU had 21 goals, 233 shots, 18 assists and 29 saves while conceding only eight goals.

Morich led ODU on offense with five goals, five assists, 15 points and 41 shots. Perry set a career record with seven shutouts while making 24 saves and only allowing one goal. ODU finished the regular season with the best record in C-USA, tallying a .813 winning percentage. Several Monarchs finished the season ranked in Conference USA. Morich is ranked fifth for assists (five), eighth for shots (41), eighth for points (15), tenth for goals (five), eleventh for shots on goal (18), and 13th for game-winning goals (two). Perry is ranked first for goals against average (.509), fifth for saves (24), and 14th for saves per game (2.00). Megan watts is ranked fourth for game-winning goals (three), second for shutouts per game (.583), and 10th for shots. Cami Johnstone is ranked ninth for assists (four).
