WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Old Dominion men's tennis team fell to William & Mary by a 4-3 score on Saturday afternoon at the Millie West Tennis Facility. The loss snapped ODU's four match win streak, as the Monarchs last loss came on March 4.
"I'm heartbroken for our guys with how it ended," said ODU head coach Dominik Mueller. "Losing the dual match with a retirement after a rolled ankle and then full body cramps while being up 5-3 in the third set of the final match is a tough pillow to swallow. The truth is that the real story line entails us not closing out the dual match. Trailing 3-1, we served for the match in the second set of all three remaining matches and couldn't close it out. The match was on our racket and execution has been haunting us all season long."
In doubles, ODU's Francois Le Tallec and Pearse Dolan defeated Chen Ruo/Finbar Talcott (6-3); however, the Tribe claimed the doubles point after winning on courts one and two.
Picking up singles wins for Old Dominion were Luca Maldoner (6-2, 6-3), Younes Lalami (6-2, 6-7, 6-4) and Le Tallec (6-4, 7-5).
The Monarchs (8-8) have claimed victory in eight of their last 11 matches. The win was the fourth in a row for William & Mary (6-4).
Old Dominion will return to action on Wednesday, April 14 at 1 p.m., when the Monarchs take on East Tennessee State in Charlotte, North Carolina.
