PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Old Dominion University defensive end Keion White has been named to the Bednarik Award Watch List, given to the best defensive player in college football, the Maxwell Football Club announced on Monday.
White moved to defense last season after playing tight end in 2018 and made an immediate impact. He finished fourth in C-USA and 10th in FBS with 19 tackles for loss. With the 19 tackles for loss, White tied Ronnie Cameron for ODU's single-season record for tackles for loss. He had seven games with multiple tackles for loss and led all ODU defensive linemen with 62 tackles. White was named second-team All-Conference USA in 2019.
White is one of seven Conference USA players on the watch list, including Blaze Allredge (Rice), Reed Blankenship, (Middle Tennessee), Akileis Leroy (FAU), DeAngelo Malone (WKU), Kris Moll (UAB) and Jordan Smith (UAB).
Last week, White was named to the College Football America's Group of Five preseason starting lineup, and was also named preseason All-Conference USA by Athlon Sports and by Phil Steele.
