Lacrosse Suffers 22-9 Setback Against Davidson

NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion lacrosse team (3-4, 0-0 BIG EAST) suffered a 22-9 loss against Davidson (2-3, 0-0 A-10) on Wednesday afternoon at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.
 
The Wildcats struck early and often, scoring seven of the first eight goals of the contest, two of which came from the stick of Anna West. Back-to-back goals from Brooke Stein and Danielle Dundas, both assisted by Glory Johnson, ended the Davidson run and cut the Monarch deficit to four goals with just over 13 minutes left in the first half. 
 
Davidson would rattle of six more goals to close the half and take a 13-3 lead into the locker rooms. In the first 30 minutes of play, the Wildcats had a 10-shot advantage over the Monarchs, leading the category 24-14. Johnson registered three points in the half, scoring ODU's first goal and assisting on the other two that the Monarchs scored.
 
After Katie Woodruff scored to start the second half for the Wildcats, The Monarchs went on a 4-1 run to bring the score to 15-7. Johnson, Claire Porter, Lilly Siskind and Michelle Hallman each netted the goals in the stretch.
 
Johnson scored two more times, but the Wildcats added seven goals and cruised to a 22-9 victory. 
 
Johnson ended the game with four goals and two assists to lead the ODU offense. She had six shots, five on goal, and brought in seven draw controls. Siskind was the other Monarch with multiple points in the effort, registering a goal and an assist on her ledger. Tess Meurling and Maddie Mullenbach also picked up points in the effort, each with an assist. 
 
Brianna Blatter came off the bench to relieve starter Sabrina Leatherwood in goal. Blatter turned aside seven shots in just over 47 minutes of action. 
 
The Wildcat offense was led by West, as she scored five goals for the road team. Shannon Blee and Sam Rippley each scored three goals in the effort as well for Davidson. 
 
In total, the Monarchs were outshot, 36-23, picked up 15 of the 31 draw controls in the game and gathered 11 ground balls. ODU came away with eight successful clear attempts in 12 opportunities.
 
The Monarchs next game will occur this Saturday, March 7 when they face off against Richmond at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex. The game, the second of a five-game home stand, is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
