KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Old Dominion University swimming senior Filip Svedberg won the 100 butterfly with an NCAA B-cut time of 47.35 on the third day of the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Championship Friday night in Knoxville
Svedberg edged out Rateb Hussein of Florida Atlantic by .23 seconds to win the CCSA Championship in the 100 butterfly for the third time in the last four years.
Jacob Cobb finished in 12th in the 100 butterfly with a time of 50.71 and Neal McElhattan took 16th in 50.95.
Peter Durisin took second-place in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 54.56. Nathan Kimbel won the B-Final and finished in ninth with a time of 56.20.
Cobb added to the great start by Svedberg by taking third in the 400 IM with a time of 3:57.27. Gus Maxwell added an 11th place finish in the 400 IM with a time of 4:02.84, while Caleb Wyninger placed 14th with a time of 4:10.51.
The Monarchs had a pair of finishers in the B-Final of the 200 freestyle, as Hunter Young finished 10th with a time of 1:40.29, and Parker Harp took 12th in 1:40.98.
Cobb added more points for the Monarchs in the 100 backstroke by placing 12th with a time of 50.71, and McElhattan finished 14th with a time of 50.95.
The championship finishes Saturday with the prelims at 10 a.m. and the finals at 6 p.m.
"Filip, Peter and Jacob showcased a great meet thus far for our Monarch Family. Overall our team has achieved many personal best teams and NIC (National Invitation Championships) qualification times," ODU Head Coach Jess Livsey said. "We have a lot of momentum as we head into the final day of the meet tomorrow."
