About Winthrop
Saturday's contest will be Winthrop's season opener. Last season, the Eagles went 8-11, but went 4-2 in the Big South Conference and reached their conference finals, falling to top-seeded High Point, 17-10.

Coming into this season, Winthrop was ranked second in the Big South Conference's preseason poll, behind reigning champions High Point. Three Eagles were also named to the Preseason All-Conference Team, as Lauren Morris and Mia Creighton made up two of the three attacking positions, and McKenna Blick was named an alternate to the team. Morris led the Eagles with 47 goals and 73 points last season.
