NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men's tennis team (0-0) will commence the 2020 spring season with a double-header at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center on Saturday, Jan. 18. First, the Monarchs will take on Georgetown (0-0) at 1:00 p.m. The second match of Saturday afternoon's double-header will be against Hampton (0-0) beginning at 4:00 p.m. Admission is free for the public for all ODU home tennis matches.
Luca Maldoner enters the 2020 spring season nationally ranked No. 93 in singles after advancing to the ITA Atlantic Region Singles Championship in the fall, earning a bid to the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships, where Maldoner picked up a victory over a nationally ranked opponent.
Francois Musitelli/Jannik Giesse are currently the No. 47 nationally ranked doubles tandem. Musitelli/Giesse won the ITA Atlantic Region Doubles Championship in Charlottesville in the fall, as ODU's duo also earned a bid to the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships, where they downed the No. 9 nationally ranked doubles team in Division I.
In November, Musitelli was selected to represent France at the Master U BNP Paribas.
The Tennis Monarchs are coming off a 13-10 season in 2019, when their year ended in the C-USA Semifinals.
