NORFOLK, Va. -- On a pinch-hit, walk-off walk from John Wilson, Old Dominion came from behind to defeat, VCU, 6-5 on Tuesday evening at the Bud Metheny Complex.
Twice Old Dominion (19-13) rallied, overcoming a 4-0 deficit in the sixth inning, and then a 5-4 deficit in the ninth.
In the sixth, Will Morgan ignited the ODU offense with a solo home run to put the Monarchs on the board. Tommy Bell then tied it with a 3-run bomb over the left field wall.
VCU (25-8) then regained the lead in the top of the eighth on a pinch-hit RBI single with two outs. The 5-4 lead carried until the bottom of the ninth.
Jared Hancock, who went 4-for-4 with a double, led off the ninth with a single and then a VCU error put runners at second and third with no outs.
After an intentional walk, Cory Alexander II, who pinch ran for Hancock, scored on a passed ball. After yet another intentional walk to once again load the bases with one out, Wilson pinch hit and drew a 7-pitch walk to bring in the winning run.
It was Wilson's fourth career plate appearance.
