NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion and FIU split a series-opening doubleheader on Saturday at the Bud Metheny Complex, setting up an Easter Sunday rubber match.

ODU (23-15, 6-11) won the opener, 8-6, and FIU (17-21, 7-10) then grabbed game two, 12-5.

In game one, the Monarchs tagged FIU ace Logan Allen for eights run on 10 hits. Allen entered the day 4-2 with a 1.81 ERA.

Vinnie Pasquantino broke a 1-1 tie early in the game with a two-run home run in the third inning. ODU is now 7-1 in games that Pasquantino homers.

The Monarchs then broke the game open with four runs in the fifth, including 2-RBI doubles from Erik Stock and Jared Hancock

FIU slowly cut into the 8-1 deficit, but Isaiah Nelson came on in the ninth to close the door for his first save of 2019.

Tommy Gertner provided ODU with a solid start, allowing one run in four innings, while striking out a season-high seven.

In game two, the Panthers broke open a one-game in the seventh inning with a 6-run top half. ODU led 4-2 through four innings, but FIU scored seven runs on 12 hits off of the Monarch bullpen.

Will Morgan homered for ODU in game two, while Andy Garriola went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

The rubber match is Sunday at noon. Ryne Moore (5-2, 4.41 ERA) toes the rubber against FIU's Franco Aleman (1-3, 4.37 ERA).
