NORFOLK, Va. -- The 2019 Old Dominion baseball season officially gets underway this weekend, as the Monarchs host High Point for a three-game series at the Bud Metheny Complex.
Action begins on Friday with a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. ET. The series finale will then be played either Saturday or Sunday, depending on weather. All three games will be streamed on CUSA.tv.
The Monarchs return a total of 11 starters and 21 letterwinners from a season ago, while welcoming in 13 newcomers, including eight freshmen and five junior college transfers.
2017 Freshman All-Americans Vinnie Pasquantino and Kyle Battle figure to anchor the ODU offense, in addition to Will Morgan, who hit eight home runs a season ago, and Erik Stock, a 2018 Conference USA All-Freshman Team selection after hitting .320 with 13 doubles, three home runs and 20 RBIs.
On the mound, transfer Nick Pantos will be ODU's Friday starter to open the season with fellow righties Morgan Maguire and Ryne Moore rounding out the rotation. Maguire, a senior who has pitched 174 innings in his career, had a breakout season last year as a junior, posting a 3.38 ERA in 15 starts with two complete-game shutouts.
The opening weekend homestand marks the beginning of a 13-game home stretch to start the season for the Monarchs. Overall, 19 of ODU's first 22 games are at The Bud.
ABOUT HIGH POINT
