CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Old Dominion (11-5-2) men’s soccer team fell to No. 14 Charlotte (14-3-1) in the C-USA Tournament Semifinal, 4-2 on Friday night.

"I'm very proud of the team and proud of the season," said head coach Alan Dawson. "Great group of lads, great character, fun to be around. I'm not disappointed at all."

The first half of play was back and forth between the Monarchs and the 49ers. It wasn’t until the 42nd minute that a goal was scored. Charlotte earned the early lead off a Preston Popp goal that was in the midst of a scramble of players.

ODU answered just one minute later off a free kick from Deniz Dogan. Just two minutes later, Hans Kroschwitz took a shot that was deflected and Max Wilschrey finished off to take the 2-1 lead into halftime.

At the half, ODU trailed in shots, 10-7.

To open the second half, Charlotte tied the match in the 56th minute off a Callum Montgomery goal. Just five minutes before regulation time expired, Daniel Bruce scored the fourth Charlotte goal of the game to close out scoring.

ODU was outshot, 25-15. Wilschrey took three shots.

Junior goalkeeper Mertcan Akar made a season high eight saves.
