BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Old Dominion (8-3-2, 4-1-0 C-USA) men’s soccer team scored three goals in the second half to top Campbell (5-7-1, 2-2-0 Big South) 3-2 on the road Tuesday night. Senior Niko Klosterhalfen scored back-to-back goals to secure the victory for the Monarchs. ODU is now unbeaten in their last four games.
In the 16th minute, Campbell opened up their first half scoring from Thibaut Jacquel. Just before half, Aigbekan Nosegbe scored another goal for the Camels to take a two-goal lead heading the second period.
Right as second half play began, Deniz Dogan took a free kick that immediately hit the back of the net, which resulted in the Monarchs first goal of the game.
10 minutes later, Klosterhalfen tied up the match for ODU in the 56th minute off a header that landed in the right corner of the net. In the 64th minute, Max Wilschrey sent a pass to Klosterhalfen who netted his second goal of the game to take the lead for ODU and close out scoring. The senior now owns six goals and trails behind Wilschrey in points (18).
The Monarchs played the last 23 minutes a man down after Luke Campbell was served a red card.
Hans Kroschwitz, Kostas Mylonas, and Wilschrey all added assists in the 3-2 win. ODU tallied 19 shots over Campbell's 10 on Tuesday night.
Junior goalkeeper Mertcan Akar collected four saves.
