MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The Old Dominion men's golf team was forced to withdraw from the Golfweek Program Challenge in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, this week due to evacuation procedures relating to Hurricane Florence.
Through the first two rounds, the Monarchs were 9-under and sat in third place. However, to ensure the safety of his student-athletes and that they could evacuate campus at a reasonable time, head coach Murray Rudisill was forced to withdraw from the tournament prior to Tuesday's final round.
Individually, Gustav Fransson (-5), Carter Morgan (-4) and Calvin Greschner (-2) were all in the top 20 of the player leaderboard through two rounds. Fransson was tied for seventh, Morgan tied for 11th and Greschner tied for 20th.
Chris Ayers (+7) and Michael Bakker (-4), who shot a 4-unde 68 in the opening round and then did not play on round two, also competed for ODU.
Campbell (-48) won the event.
Up next, ODU is set to play in the VCU Janney Shootout Sept. 17-18 at Tuckahoe Creek Country Club.
