MACON, Ga. -- The Old Dominion women's golf team and Katerina Vlasinova both finished as runner-ups at the Brickyard Collegiate this week held at the Brickyard Country Club in Macon, Georgia.

"The golf course and conditions were tough and we handled it exceptionally well," said head coach Mallory Hetzel. "There are a number of positives we can take away from this tournament. I'm so proud of how this group represents ODU."

The Monarchs (+15) carded a 4-over round on the final day, the second-best round of any squad in the 14-team field. Vanderbilt (+5), the 27th-ranked team in the nation, finished 2-over on Tuesday to win the event by 10 strokes.

Overall, the Monarchs finished ahead of three teams (#40 LSU, #42 Kennesaw State, #54 Virginia Tech) ranked ahead higher than ODU in the GolfStat team rankings.

Individually, Vlasinova (-1) fired a 3-under 69, the best round of any individual, on Tuesday and finished two shots behind individual champion Morgan Baxendale (-3) of Vanderbilt. The second-place finish was the best finish by an individual for ODU this season and was the third top-five finish for Vlasinova of 2017-18.

Maggie Simmermacher (+7) and Charlotte De Corte (+7) also finished in the top 10 and tied for ninth. The ninth-place finish was De Corte's best finish of the season, while Simmermacher notched her fourth top-10 finish on the year.

Sana Tufail (+9) tied for 17th overall and Abigail Portyrata (+17) tied for 47th.

Up next, the Monarchs will look to defend their Conference USA Championship in Fort Myers, Florida, April 16-18.

"We're excited about the progress we've made this spring," said Hetzel. "We are looking forward to the C-USA Championship next week. "
