GREENVILLE, N.C. -- In its first game against a ranked opponent of the 2018 season, Old Dominion fell at No. 18 East Carolina, 10-3, on Wednesday evening at Lewis Field at Clark-LeClair Stadium.
The Monarchs (3-5) are now 1-1 in midweek games this season.
East Carolina (7-1), coming off of a series win over then-No. 6 North Carolina, climbed out to an early lead, scoring in each of the first three innings to lead 6-1 after three. ODU was able to cut it to 6-3 on Jimbo Reemsnyder's two-out, two-RBI single, the first hit of his ODU career, in the fifth inning, but ECU added insurance runs in the seventh and eighth to seal the victory.
DJ Lardge was the lone Monarch with two hits, going 2-for-4 with a run scored. Vinnie Pasquantino and Brian Morley both doubled.
On the mound, ODU starter Morgan Maguire received the loss, allowing six runs, five earned, in three innings of work.
Up next, the Monarchs return to the friendly confines of the Bud Metheny Complex for a weekend series against Rutgers this weekend.
