NORFOLK, Va. -- After opening the season this past weekend in Kissimmee, Old Dominion hosts Richmond on Tuesday at 3 p.m. for the 2018 home opener at the new-and-improved Bud Metheny Complex.
Several renovations, including a new Rally Alley Fan Deck and Daktronics Scoreboard, will create a more engaging game environment for fans. View a detailed breakdown of the improvements to the stadium for the 2018 season here.
Old Dominion (1-2) competed in the Sunshine State Classic in Kissimmee, Florida, last weekend, defeating Saint Louis in the season opener and dropping close games to Oakland and reigning Big Ten champ Iowa.
Preseason All-Conference USA selection Kyle Battle and shortstop Bryce Windham both hit a team-leading .429 during the opening weekend of play.
On the mound, Brett Smith, pitching for the first time since his 2017 Tommy John surgery, earned the win against Saint Louis with three shutout innings of relief. True freshman and Saturday starter Hunter Gregory also shined, tossing 4.1 innings of no-hit ball with six strikeouts in his collegiate debut.
ODU leads the all-time series, 65-61. Last year, Richmond defeated the Monarchs, 5-1, in Richmond, in what proved to be an RPI-damaging loss for ODU down the stretch. In that game, Richmond threw its normal Sunday starter Layne Looney, who tossed six shutout innings for the win.
