NORFOLK, Va. – For the second straight month, an Old Dominion men’s tennis player was named the Conference USA Tennis Athlete of the Month, this time it was Aziz Kijametovic garnering the honor for competition during the month of October.
Kijametovic went a perfect 6-0 in doubles and won the 2017 ITA Atlantic Regional Tournament, punching his ticket to the National Tournament. Kijametovic and teammate Francois Musitelli downed opponents from Duquesne, George Washington, Virginia Tech (No. 2 seed), Penn State (No. 4 seed) and UVA (No. 5 seed) to claim the coveted Regional crown.
Kijametovic also went on a run in singles at the Regional Tournament, highlighted by downing the No. 35 nationally ranked and No. 1 seeded Adam Moundir in the Quarterfinals, claiming a spot in the Semifinals. Leading up to the Quarterfinals, Kijametovic proved to be too much for opponents from Radford, Penn State and Virginia Tech. Carlo Donato of Virginia Tech was the No. 5 seed and Kijametovic defeated him in straight sets (6-4, 6-2).
Kijametovic went 6-0 in doubles and 4-1 in singles in the month of October.
