MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- In a game that featured six lead changes, Old Dominion rallied to defeat Middle Tennessee, 9-8, in game one of the series on Friday evening at Reese Smith Jr. Field.

With the score tied 8-8 in the top of the ninth inning, Kurt Sinnen drove in Culver Lamb with a one-out sacrifice fly and Craig Lopez retired Middle Tennessee (14-16, 3-7 C-USA) in order in the bottom of the frame to give Old Dominion (23-8, 8-2 C-USA) the comeback victory. 

Despite ODU scoring a run in each of the first five innings, the Blue Raiders scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth to carry an 8-7 lead into the seventh. Kyle Battle tied the game in the eighth with a two-out RBI single, before Sinnen's game-winning sac fly in the ninth.

At the plate, Jared Young continued to swing a hot bat for ODU, registering his second consecutive four-hit game. Young finished the day 4-for-5 with a home run and three runs scored. K. Sinnen went 2-for-3 with a home run, his second of the season and three RBIs, while Battle went 2-for-4 with three RBIs. 

On the mound, Morgan Maguire and Lopez, who earned his first win of the season, combined to throw 3.2 innings of shutout relief after starter Sam Sinnen allowed seven earned runs in 5.1 innings.

With the victory, the Monarchs improve to 7-1 in one-run games this season and earn their third win when trailing entering the ninth inning. 

ODU and Middle Tennessee resume the series tomorrow at 5 p.m. ET/4 p.m. CT on CUSA.tv and STAR 1310. Adam Bainbridge is expected to start against AJ Spencer. 

GAME NOTES
MTSU still leads all-time series, 8-5 ... ODU is now 7-1 in one-run games ... Jared Young earned his second straight four-hit game and now has 10 hits during the week ... Young's home run was his fourth of the seaosn and third in his last two games ... Kurt Sinnen's two-run home run in the top of the fifth was his second of the season and the fourth of his career ... ODU earned its third win when trailing entering the ninth inning.
