CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- In the opening game of its five-game road stint, Old Dominion fell to No. 18 Virginia, 18-5, on Tuesday evening at Davenport Field.
After Old Dominion (22-7) grabbed an early 1-0 lead on a Vinnie Pasquantino solo home run in the top of the first, Virginia (22-8) plated two or more runs in each of the first five innings to build a double-digit lead by the end of the fourth inning.
Jared Young led Old Dominion at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, while Nick Walker also added an RBI double. Pasquantino's first-inning home run was his third of the year and also extended his hitting streak to 15 games. Pasquantino finished the night 1-for-5 with two runs scored.
With the loss, the Monarchs drop to 6-2 in midweek games this season and 4-2 against Virginia schools.
Up next, the Monarchs travel to Lexington for a Wedneday matchup against VMI at 3 p.m. ODU and the Keydets met earlier this season, when the Monarchs won, 14-2, at The Bud. Gameday audio for VMI will be provided for free via Monarch Media.
